Trullo di Monica

About ten years ago, on their large plot of land, filled with wonderful olive trees, Monica and Agnes began fulfilling their dream to make certified organic extra-virgin olive oil! In the midst of their estate is a house with a trullo that might have had to wait years to come back to life, but it was definitely worth the wait! The house, an ancient building with a trullo alongside it, has been completely refurbished, keeping its original design and shape. Its large central cone is built entirely out of stone, with two smaller cones, one for the kitchen and a large lamia (a room with a cross-vaulted roof). Tastefully furnished in a combination of the antique and the modern that intertwine with charm and elegance, the interior is also very functional. In the privacy of the back of the house, is a beautiful, environmentally-friendly, totally sustainable, 4m x 8m raised swimming pool, equipped with sun beds and umbrella, bathed in sunshine the whole day long.

The outside is an expanse of centuries-old olive trees that every year make an excellent extra-virgin olive oil, which can be bought on site.

The house is ideal for two couples or a family of four as it has two bedrooms (one double and one with two single beds that can be joined to make a king-sized bed), bathroom with shower and washing machine, living room, dining room and a spacious, well-equipped kitchen.

Guests have access to the entire property, which includes a large paved area shaded by a large leafy mulberry tree in front of the stone entrance and a walled garden. You can stroll among the estate’s beautiful olive trees surrounding the building on the other side of the dry stone wall.

The surroundings

The property is located in the country between Ceglie Messapica and Martina Franca, a few hundred metres from the Ulmo pine forest and about 100m from the start of the beautiful Pugliese aqueduct cycle path, a charmingly beautiful route about 15km long, great both by bike and on foot, walking or jogging, among magnificent olive trees, hamlets and little groups of trulli, immersed in a truly breathtaking landscape. About 10 minutes’ drive away is Ceglie Messapica, a beautiful little town famed for its traditional cuisine and its excellent restaurants and trattorias. In the opposite direction, it’s about 15 minutes’ drive to the beautiful town of Martina Franca, famous for its Valle d'Itria Opera Festival. From there head towards the absolute jewel of the Valle d'Itria: Locorotondo, a splendid town that is truly a must. Just a few miles further on are Cisternino, Alberobello and Ostuni. To get to the sea, the Adriatic coast below Ostuni takes about 20 minutes by car. In the other direction, via Manduria, in around 40-45 minutes you can be at the Ionian coast, with its beautiful beaches made of the finest sand.
