Trulloleandro

Trulloleandro stands on a hill between Martina France and Ostuni surrounded by olive, Macedonian oak, chestnut and cherry trees. It is hard not to be captivated by the harmony of its lines, its hallowed central cone and the mellowness of the surrounding landscape.

DESCRIPTION OF THE BUILDING

The unit is made up of a central section and an extension.

The central section is made up of a large stone cone used for the living room; to the right is the kitchen area with a stone fireplace; to the left is the play alcove (which can accommodate two children); a white cone is used as a double or twin bedroom; the bathroom is in local “pastellone” paving and has a barrel vault with a walk-in shower with bar mixer.

The extension features a double bedroom which looks out onto the olive grove and has its own independent entrance. It has a walk-in wardrobe and a master bathroom with walk-in shower. Alternatively, holidaymakers can rent just the original part inside the trullo.

To the rear is a fully equipped laundry room. In the outdoor area just outside the entrance is a patio area, equipped with a dining table and wooden benches, sun loungers, a barbecue and an outdoor hot shower.

Trulloleandro is truly a lifework, born out of the painstaking renovation of ancient structures – using sustainable materials combined with handcrafted construction and decorative techniques – as well as out of a search for furnishings that are elegant in their minimalism but at the same time functional and comfortable.

During the summer, it is a refreshingly cool place from where, in the mornings, depending on which way the wind is blowing, you can decide which coastline to head for: the Ionian when the cool mistral comes in from the north, the Adriatic during the hot scirocco.

Closer to home, the afternoon is an enticing time to visit the beautiful towns of Cisternino, Locorotondo, Ostuni, Martina Franca and Alberobello which lie 10 to 30 minutes’ drive away; in the evening, you will enjoy escaping to the cool hillside temperatures for a home-cooked Apulian dinner or discovering Apulian cuisine in the numerous typical restaurants in the surrounding area.

In spring and autumn, the hill expresses its true essence in a range of colours and offerings that are hard to resist, while in the first cold spells you can still enjoy the comfort of a warm stone and a blazing fireplace and at Christmas you can often see snow.

Trulloleandro is not just a summer home, but a perfect retreat for all seasons to enable you to relax, but also to get to know this beautiful and enthralling land that is Puglia even more intimately.

"After years of travelling to distant lands and scorching summers on Mediterranean beaches, I began to feel a craving for shade, greenery and rolling hills.

A holiday in Puglia on the beaches of the Salento peninsula and hidden away in the hills of the Itria Valley regenerated that vision and fulfilled that urgent longing.

I discovered my house as I slowly climbed the hillside bedecked with olive, Macedonian oak, chestnut and cherry trees on the road from Martina Franca to Ostuni.

The first thing to come into view was the deep pink oleander that marks the boundary of the property: the white lamia house, the ancient trullo with its pinkish stone topped by white cones as if to mimic the snow that will swathe them at the coldest time of year."

Trulloleandro is strategically located at the heart of the Itria Valley and close to some of the most beautiful towns in Puglia; Cisternino, Ostuni, Ceglie Messapica, Martina Franca, Locorotondo, Alberobello, Fasano and Savelletri are all within easy reach in just 10 to 30 minutes; Matera, the outstanding 2019 European Capital of Culture, is just an hour and a half away.

The Acquedotto Pugliese footpath runs just 300 metres from the property, while a convenience store, a delicatessen with Apulian products, a bakery, a steak house and a pizzeria are 500 metres away. There is also a little church nearby.
